We are saddened to report that animals have lost a We are saddened to report that animals have lost another champion. Jama Hedgecoth, founder of Noah's Ark Animal Sanctuary, passed away on November 21 at age 65. Jama first began caring for injured wild animals at her farm in Ellenwood, Georgia, in 1978. In 1991, she relocated the growing sanctuary to its current 250-acre location in Locust Grove, providing care to hundreds of injured, abused, unwanted and neglected domestic and wild animals.

"For over 30 years, Jama dedicated her life to serving her community and animals in need and making sure children could connect with animals and nature. She touched so many lives, and her memory will be enduring." —Noah's Ark

AHNow extends our deepest condolences to Jama's friends and loved ones.

Today is Celebrate Shelter Pets Day! This commemor Today is Celebrate Shelter Pets Day! This commemorative day started as a way to raise the profile of animal adoption after a study showed that people are three times more likely to adopt from a shelter after talking with a friend or family member who has done so. And it's a great excuse to show off your adopted companions! So post those photos and stories on social media and consider adopting, fostering or supporting your local shelter.

As someone who cares about animals, you are essent As someone who cares about animals, you are essential to the success of Animal Help Now.

With your support – whether in word, deed, or dollar – our groundbreaking Animal Help Now app in 2023 is once again helping tens of thousands of people help tens of thousands of injured and orphaned wild animals. The app already has been used more than 125,000 times this year for helping distressed wildlife, as well as humanely resolving wildlife conflicts.

And now we're poised to launch our second app – PHaR, the Pet Help & Rescue app – giving animal companions their best chance ever of surviving when disasters strike.

Here's our very first PHaR demo showing the actual app in action.
We continue to produce and maintain these lifesaving products on a shoestring budget, due to our low overhead and heavy volunteer input.

We know you recognize that Animal Help Now spends very little time and money on fundraising, so with days like Giving Tuesday, we simply ask that you seriously consider supporting our work, whether it's for the first or the fifteenth time.

WILL YOU PLEASE DONATE TODAY?

You can make a one-time gift or join our monthly donors program at www.AHNow.org/Donate (or you can donate through social media).
Animal Help Now needs your help to finish the year strong and be prepared for another busy year ahead.

Maintaining two very different apps is going to be at least twice as hard as maintaining just one.

Here is another in our series celebrating our amaz Here is another in our series celebrating our amazing volunteers. Meet long time volunteer Jill Bielawski.

What kind of volunteer work do you do for AHNow?
I edit social media posts and other pieces I'm assigned, making sure they're correct and concise and comply with our style. I've been the group's de facto editor since its inception, editing various content AHNow produces.

How did you first get involved in helping animals?
I champion the underdog. I've always felt a deep connection and empathy with animals and credit a chicken named Penny with getting me thinking about my food choices. I've been vegan for 27 years. I see a lot of animal rights activists focusing solely on domestic animals. Animal Help Now taught me a lot about wildlife, their importance, how to avoid harming them and what to do when we accidentally do inflict harm.

Why do you choose to volunteer your time with AHNow?
I believe in AHNow's mission and appreciate that the organization offers a vital service that no one else provides. I served as the social media director for a few years, which made me a great candidate for what I do now. I'm an editor by profession and have a passion for animal advocacy and quality writing, so this volunteer role blends my passions perfectly.

"Jill's work on animal issues has spanned at least three decades. She's a superstar. Animal Help Now benefits tremendously from her contributions, and so by extension do the public and our animal friends. Her communications work on behalf of animals is unparalleled among our peers."—David Crawford, Co-Founder and Executive Director

Don’t throw away your pumpkins! Now that Hallowe Don’t throw away your pumpkins! Now that Halloween is over, you may be getting ready to toss the pumpkins, gourds and other vegetables you used as decorations. Instead, give them a second use while helping animals by donating them to a licensed wildlife rehabilitator or farm animal sanctuary. Just be sure that the pumpkins haven’t been painted or otherwise treated.

To find a nearby wildlife rehabilitation center or at-home wildlife rehabilitator, use Animal Help Now's Wildlife Emergency service.

When we tell people about Animal Help Now's Wildlife Emergency service, about as often as not what they say comes to mind for them is a deer injured by the side of the road. An estimated billion birds die from window strikes in the United States every single year. And not just big buildings, but also our homes, ironically, with many caused by improper bird feeder placement. See www.AHNow.org/window-strikes for more information. And always have the Animal Help Now app handy for when you encounter a bird injured by such a strike or any other wildlife emergency.
